- Islamic terrorist groups have used combinations of ancient guerrilla warfare tactics and advanced technologies to carry out their goals. They have shown themselves to be practitioners of unconventional warfare by staging operations around the globe against high-visibility, high-value targets, using very small teams, producing dramatic results with relatively little expenditure, all without ever engaging in direct battlefield attacks against an opposing military force.

- Given the date (and lack of any better ideas) I decided to have a little fun with this weeks meeting. Each month I share what I'm currently working on in my life with the SLUG group. This month we'll go a little further into my life as I approach the top of the hill.
- Computational issues modeling the magnetosphere (UNH Nesmith Hall, Room 329, from 2007-02-27 12:40 to 2007-02-27 14:00) — by Tom Fogal
- J. Raeder of SSC/UNH will discuss the computational limitations in modeling the earth's magnetosphere. The magnetosphere surrounds Earth and shields it from the solar wind and energetic particle radiation originating from the sun and the cosmos. Understanding and predicting Earth's geospace environment, now called `Space Weather', has become increasingly important over the past decades because of the possibly harmful effects on assets like communications satellites, and the risks it poses to human activity in space.

- Tom Fogal and the UNH ACM will present the basics of GNU Make. Make is a tool to control the compilation of software based on the source files which compose it. It is the standard utility for building software on POSIX platforms, popular for the ability to avoid costly compilation of files which have not changed. We will discuss the algorithms behind Make as well as the basic format of a makefile, showing how you can use it to build your software quickly and easily.
